Heavy-Duty Floor Screeding for Warehouses - Full Structural Cure in 24 to 72 Hours
Liquid screed makes sense in a domestic setting with underfloor heating. On an industrial warehouse floor, however, it shaves precious time off your schedule.
Collie Floor Levelling provides rapid surface solutions for industrial warehousing using cementitious compounds engineered specifically for commercial flooring. Because the compound consumes its own water through hydration rather than evaporation, full access drops from a week to two days.
What this means is that you have a floor ready for full operational loading 48 hours after our pump leaves the site.
Warehouse Handover Schedules - Real Curing Benchmarks
Floor specifications need to match your schedule – so that’s our priority.
The table below demonstrates how polymer-modified cementitious compounds outperform standard anhydrites across real warehouse construction stages:
Operational Phase | Standard Liquid Screed | Rapid Polymer Compound | On-Site Result |
Light Foot Traffic | 1 to 2 days | 2 to 4 hours | No site hold-up for following trades. |
Mechanical Prep | Needs surface abrading (laitance) | Ready for direct overlay | No downtime spent grinding off surface slurry. |
Light Machinery Access | 24-48 hours | 24 hours | Scissor lifts and mobile towers can work overhead. |
Full Dynamic Loading | 7 days | 48 to 72 hours | Forklifts can work heavy pallet movements. |
Target Moisture (75% RH) | 50 to 70 days | Under 48 hours | Epoxy floor coats bond cleanly without moisture blisters. |
Substrate Preparation - Where Warehouse Floors Win or Fail
The vast majority of industrial flooring failures have nothing to do with the screed mix – they happen because of poor prep.
Your commercial floor has to be able to take the stress of fully loaded counterbalanced forklift braking hard over and over again, day in, day out, without the screed layer cracking.
That’s why we prepare every warehouse substrate using a four-stage process:
- Captive Shot Blasting – We blast the concrete to remove curing agents, oil residues, and old laitance, creating an ICRI CSP 3–4 profile for maximum mechanical grip.
- Structural Crack & Joint Stitching – Any moving slab cracks are chased out with diamond blades, cross-stitched with corrugated steel pins, and resin-welded with structural epoxy.
- Moisture Testing & Barrier Membranes – We test sub-slab relative humidity across the floor plate; if rising damp exceeds 75% RH, we apply a two-part epoxy DPM to stop moisture blowing the topping off.
- Quartz-Blind Priming – We apply technical primers, blinding the surface with kiln-dried silica quartz to give the rapid compound a rough, sandpaper-like surface key.
Continuous Pumping – Meeting TR34 FM2 Flatness for Narrow Aisles
Getting an industrial floor flat enough for high-bay warehousing takes high-volume pumping placement.
We install floors to Concrete Society TR34 FM2 free-movement standards using continuous machinery and depth control.
Continuous Machine Mixing with the MTEC 330
We place the compound using the MTEC 330 three-phase continuous mixing pump. The unit digitally meters water and powder, pumping up to 50 litres of mixed screed per minute directly through the delivery hose. This steady output eliminates cold joints and dry edges across wide bays, letting the material cure as a single monolithic plate.
Laser Datum Level Control
Before pumping begins, we map the slab using optical levels and place physical datum pins across the grid. Our screeders work the wet material using stainless steel gauge rakes set to exact depths, maintaining uniform cover and eliminating floor depressions.
Surface De-Aeration and Smoothing
Right behind the gauge rakes, we run large-diameter spiked rollers across the material. This breaks surface tension, gets rid of trapped mixing air, and blends the passes together seamlessly. The result is a smooth, high-density floor that meets TR34 tolerances and stops floor bounce.
FAQs - Warehouse Screeding & Operations
Here are four practical questions (with answers) we regularly hear on site from main contractors, facility managers, and racking teams before we start the pump.
No. If the slab moves underneath, the compound poured over it will crack. We map all structural movement joints before the pour. We either run temporary compressible foam forms through the screed or cut the fresh compound directly above the existing slab joint within 24 hours of pouring. Once it’s cured, we pack the joint with a foam backing rod and seal it flush with joint sealant.
Industrial screeds can’t be feathered down to a flat edge. Under commercial wheel traffic, cementitious compounds need a minimum thickness of 5mm to 8mm. Where we meet level door thresholds, metal dock leveller frames, or adjoining bays, we saw-cut a 10mm-deep rebate into the slab. We break out that shoulder so the screed finishes flush into a clean, vertical mechanical key, keeping the edge protected from dynamic tyre impact.
Not if the compound has reached its 48-hour threshold. By day two, the material hits over 25 to 30 N/mm² compressive strength with high flexural strength. Your racking installers should drill with sharp SDS carbide bits, keeping the hammer action switched off until the tip penetrates through the screed and enters the structural base concrete. Racking loads transfer entirely down into the concrete slab, while the dense screed stops the anchor collars from crushing the surface when torque bolts are pulled tight.
Industrial cementitious compounds are tough enough to avoid this. To prevent black rubber scuffing from counterbalance trucks and protect against light chemical drips, we spray-apply a clear, penetrating lithium silicate densifier 24 hours after pouring. The silicate reacts chemically with free lime in the screed mix to create insoluble calcium silicate hydrate crystals, hardening the top 2mm of the floor and eliminating dust without making the surface slick.
Have Your Warehouse Floor in 48 Hours
You cannot afford to lose a week on site waiting for screed to harden. Collie Floor Levelling cuts your handover down to 48 hours using high-output pump placement and rapid cementitious compounds. No seven-day lockouts, no weak laitance sanding, and no moisture delays.
